Liminal Atlas is a free walking game that runs in your phone’s browser. This page explains what the game collects, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to keep it short and plain.
Your location
- The game asks for your phone’s location so it can show the map around you and tell when you are near a place in the game.
- Your position is used on your device to work out what is nearby. We do not save your location history on our servers, and we do not track where you walk.
- Your last known position may be kept on your phone only, so the map can open in the right place. You can clear it by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
- You can turn location off at any time in your phone settings. The game will not work without it.
What we store about you
- Game progress: places discovered, quests and steps completed, journal entries, sigils and items collected, and your settings. This is saved to our database (Google Firebase) under a random anonymous ID so your progress is kept between visits.
- Google sign in (optional): if you link a Google account, we use it to sync your progress across devices. Your sign in is handled by Google and Firebase. The game can show your Google name and profile picture back to you in your own Profile. We do not use your email to contact you or sell it.
- Where you came from: if you arrived by scanning one of our posters, we record which poster (for example “sign1”) so we can tell which locations work. It is not tied to a specific person beyond your anonymous ID.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and basic usage, such as how many people open the game and which poster they came from. Google may collect your device type, browser, approximate area based on IP address, and similar technical details. This helps us fix problems and improve the game. See how Google uses data.
Other services
- Maps: map tiles are loaded from MapTiler, which receives your device’s IP address and the map area requested, as any map provider does.
- Hosting and database: Google Firebase hosts the game and stores game progress.
- On your device: the game saves some data in your browser (local storage and a cache) so it loads quickly and works with a weak signal.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads. Data is only handled by the services above, which process it for us to run the game.
Your choices
- You can play without linking an account.
- To see, correct or delete the progress stored for you, email us at hello@liminal-atlas.com and include your player ID from the Settings screen in the Profile tab. We will delete it on request.
- You can clear your browser or app data at any time. That removes what is saved on your device.
Children
The game is not meant for children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date above.
